Chatting with Jane Monteith about Instagram & Selling Art Online

I was thrilled to recently spend some time chatting with the fabulous alcohol ink artist, Jane Monteith.

Jane was born in England and immigrated to Canada in 1981. She is a self taught artist and has made a living as one for over a decade. Her art pieces are contemporary, vibrant and finished with resin. She currently has over 25,000 Instagram followers and sells her art worldwide.

In our recorded Skype interview, Jane shares some tips on Instagram and selling art online. She also gives us a preview of the online art and art biz courses she will be offering very soon. The first one will launch the first of June this year. Selling my art has never occurred to me. I guess I never really think of my art as something that can be sold. I have low self-esteem, so I guess that is the reason why. The way I see it, the art that I create is meant to inspire other people. That is what I am after for because I want to be an artist who leaves a big impact to people who look at my art. I want them to take away something from the art that I create because then it feels like a part of me is with them.

Oh my goodness, college-paper.org ... there's no need to sell your art if you don't want to ... if you wouldn't enjoy the work of marketing and promoting your art. Enjoying the creation of it is the most important things ... and inspiring others is icing on the cake!

I admire you girls !! Great interview Donna! I love Janes vibrant colours , in her minis ! My question to both of you is how many hours do you allow yourselves on Instagram, because although l love social media, with my type of more detail work, l would not get as much done as you two... lol... Thanks Deb. I love that creativity, originality, and great design have no relation to the time spent in executing a piece. One tip I can offer is that I keep a file of photos to choose from, so I don't have to take photos everyday.

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what they’re talking about on the internet? You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I can’t believe you’re not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
